The Costermonger's Song

Pushing my barrow like Molly Malone
The streets are so crowded so I’m not on my own
Oranges, apples, what would you like
Been here since the morning at the dawn of the light

Thank you kind sir, it’s a penny a pound
You won’t find a better bargain around
One for the good lady, please mind how you step
At least it’s not raining, at least not yet

Some say that we’re thieving beggars and cheats
Not everyone’s perfect and families must eat
We’re making a life and we’re going to succeed
If I drive a hard bargain it’s not out of greed

So thank you most kindly, we’re going to do fine
The next generations are going to climb
On the shoulders of others that’s how they will grow
Working for a living is all that we know
