Lyrics

Building Boomers

We’re the building boomers, making a new road
Digging down, underground, for the trams you know
Place where we were married, that has got to go
When he’s in the way of progress, you move the Holy Ghost

We’re the building boomers, a thousand bricks a day
There’ll be room for everyone, that is what they say
Streets of tarmacadam, but not paved with gold
Get your name on the list, or you’ll be out in the cold

We’re the building boomers, and Mr Bazalgette
Is planning lots of sewers, for washing out the pits
Driving out the fever, driving out disease
Stop the houses burning down, this is what we need

We’re the building boomers, shovel and a spade
Life is what you make of it, so look at what we’ve made
They may not stand forever, but we’re building things to last
Someone said when they run out of bricks, it’ll all be built with glass

We’re the building boomers and a hundred years from now
Our children and their children, should be very proud
All the London Irish, came and made their mark
All they really needed was to make a brand new start
